Precautions on Do-it-yourself repair

When repairing the vehicles by your self take the necessary precautions as to avoid accidents that may result from the damage of the vehicle, or much worst, that may cause injury on your self, here some basic tips when doing repairs on your vehicle.

 

When making repairs, which do not require a battery power, it is better to turn off engine and disconnect the negative battery terminal.

 

To prevent you from serious burns, avoid having contact with the hot metal parts or wear protective sleeve, also do not remove the radiator cap while the engine is hot.

 

Before jacking up your vehicle, ensure that the park brake is engaged, better also if your gear is engage (be sure your vehicle engine is turn off before engaging the gear), apply wheel chocks or blocking objects to the wheel to prevent it from moving while jacking up the vehicle. Use safety stands to support the vehicle weight after jacking up. 

 

Avoid smoking while working on the vehicle.

 

Do not operate the engine without proper exhaust ventilation on the working area.

 

Do not prolong contact with used oil, or better avoiding it to made contact with your skin,

Prolong or repeated contact to engine oil can cause skin cancer.

 

Keep out flammable materials near the vehicle exhaust pipe.

 

Do not use diesel fuel, kerosene, thinners or solvent material for cleaning skin. It would be better to apply barrier cream to skin prior to working to help in removing oil from the skin.

 

Be careful not to loose your balance when removing heavy parts, also avoid striking adjacent parts especially vital parts such as fuel tubes, brake tubes or master cylinder.
